The judges rate each entry on a 10-point scale. Entries with a score of 7.0 to 8.9 are "finalists" and receive the bronze Telly. Entries with a score of 9.0 or higher are "winners" and receive the silver Telly. Entries do not compete against each other. Rather, they compete against a high standard of excellence. Each year, the judges consist of a group of well over twenty highly qualified production professionals. They represent all regions of the United States and a cross-section of producers from agencies, TV stations, production houses and corporate video departments. There were over 11,000 entries in this year's competition.
History:
The Telly Awards was founded in 1980, to showcase and give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable TV commercials. Later it expanded to include film and video productions as well as non-network TV programming. David Carter was chosen to be the show administrator. He has published more than 70 books on advertising and logos, and has a very strong TV background (Clio winner, 7-time Emmy winner who produced numerous comedy sketches for the Johnny Carson show).
In the 22 years since its beginning, the Telly Awards have become a well-known, highly respected national competition. The Telly has become one of the most sought-after awards in the TV, commercial and video industry. |
